Panamera Concept

Can a vision be logical? Is it even allowed to be? We believe that the more visionary an idea at the start, the more exciting it is at the end and the more it's worth fighting for. That was the case with the Panamera. A sports car for four with impressive performance and comfort.

With the dynamism typical of Porsche and simultaneously high efficiency. Many said it was impossible. Others called it courageous.

The design

We asked ourselves one question early on: should a performance saloon really look like a saloon? The Panamera answers this question once more with an unequivocal no.

Porsche Panamera

With the Panamera, we consistently went our own way, always stayed true to our roots and have thus injected the typical Porsche DNA into the luxury saloon segment. With the Panamera, we are now pursuing this path just as consistently.

Porsche Panamera

Typical of Porsche: the sophisticated sports car ergonomics with ascending centre console, flatter dashboard and the analogue rev counter in the centre of the instrument cluster. The new steering wheel generation, in conjunction with the Porsche Advanced Cockpit control concept, offers quick access to the most important functions.

Whether you’re behind the wheel or occupying a passenger seat in the front or rear: in a Porsche, every drive should feel like sport, not transport. With comfort, not effort.

The chassis

Porsche Panamera

The chassis of the Panamera models performs a balancing act between sport and comfort effortlessly – even more impressively than before. This is because the chassis systems have been completely redesigned and, together with the even more precisely adjusted steering and the new generation of tyres, now offer more of both. More performance, but above all more comfort – especially on more demanding roads. Upgraded, partly optional chassis technologies further enhance the driving characteristics. For example, the adaptive air suspension with three-chamber technology, Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control Sport (PDCC Sport) and rear-axle steering. The integrated Porsche 4D Chassis Control system, which centrally analyses the driving situation in all three spatial dimensions, e.g. pitch, roll and yaw, calculates optimum driving states from the data and synchronises all chassis systems in real time: the fourth dimension. The objective is to optimise overall performance, and to make the middle ground between driving dynamics and comfort as expansive as possible.

The rear-axle steering

Porsche Panamera

The optional rear-axle steering (standard in the Panamera Turbo S and Turbo S E-Hybrid models) increases both performance and suitability for everyday use. At low speeds, the system steers the rear wheels in the opposite direction to that of the front wheels. This leads to a virtual shortening of the wheelbase. The turning circle is reduced, agility is increased and parking becomes noticeably easier to manage.

At high speeds, the system steers the rear wheels in the same direction as that of the front wheels. This virtual extension of the wheelbase increases driving stability. Rear-axle steering makes it clear that there is no contradiction between stability and agility or performance and suitability for everyday use. The result: greater manoeuvrability and driving safety in everyday use and a significant increase in maximum driving performance.

The brakes

Porsche Panamera

For over 70 years, we’ve been working on being faster. Even when it comes to slowing down. That's why all models – with the exception of the Panamera Turbo S and Turbo S E-Hybrid models – are equipped with a brake system with six-piston aluminium monobloc fixed brake calipers at the front and four-piston aluminium monobloc fixed brake calipers at the rear. The single-piece brake calipers are enclosed, which makes them lighter yet highly resistant to deformation. The pedal travel is tight, the pressure point precise and the braking distance impressively short.

Sport Response

Porsche Panamera

Pressing the button in the centre of the mode switch primes the engine and transmission for the fastest possible unleashing of power (e.g. for overtaking). In other words, maximum responsiveness – for a period of approximately 20 seconds.

In the drivers seat, everything is focused on you and reaching your next destination as enjoyably as possible. Meanwhile, relaxed serenity reigns in the rear. Thanks to the generous space for family, friends or colleagues. And behind? A large luggage compartment under the wide opening tailgate. Folding rear seat backrests allow larger objects to be transported too. That may not be typical of a sports car, but it is typical of the Panamera.

The front seats

Porsche Panamera

The front seats offer a high level of comfort and provide support while cornering without restricting freedom of movement. The seat height, squab and backrest angles and fore/aft position are electrically adjustable.

The power seats (14-way, electric) offer additional squab length adjustment and four-way lumbar support for driver and front passenger. The memory function stores settings for seats, steering column, both exterior mirrors and other personalised in-car settings.

The adaptive Sports seats (18-way, electric) offer even better lateral support – thanks to raised side bolsters on the squab and backrest. Electrically adjustable, they offer comfort on long journeys and made-to-measure lateral support in corners.

The rear seats

Porsche Panamera

Their main feature: there are two single seats, with plenty of leg and headroom and excellent lateral support during dynamic cornering without sacrificing comfort. On request, power seats with electric backrest adjustment, squab length adjustment and lumbar support are also available for the rear seat. Depending on the equipment, the front passenger seat can also be adjusted from the rear.

In conjunction with the adaptive Sports seats in front, the rear seats are also designed as Sports seats – with raised side bolsters.

Standard for the Sport Turismo models, optional for the other Panamera models: the 4+1 seating concept. In the rear, the system comprises of two full-sized individual seats outside left and right and one centre seat in place of the storage compartment.

The luggage compartment

Porsche Panamera

The luggage compartment of the Panamera models offers you a volume of up to 495 litres depending on the model (E-Hybrid models up to 403 litres) and up to 515 litres in the Panamera Sport Turismo models.

The large, automatic tailgate with individually adjustable opening height is standard in all models. It opens and closes conveniently at the push of a button.
